Freedom slides | Feel good, do good

Freedom slides | Feel good, do good

The caged bird sings with a fearful trill
Of things unknown but longed for still
And his tune is heard on the distant hill
For the caged bird sings of freedom.

Our homes have felt so important this year, with many of us craving a cosy safe haven for ourselves and our families.

Yet it also became clear that not everyone’s home is a place of safety.

Our latest ‘Freedom’ slides are the most personal piece I have ever created. They were my lockdown labour of love.

These gold leather slides are shearling-lined and feature a pair of embroidered Love Birds.

The Love Birds represent two beings, linked by love but flying freely, one on each shoe. The name was inspired by the lyrics of John Lennon who longed to feel as ‘free as a bird.’ It’s a song I love.

These ‘Freedom’ slides were created to honour the journey of someone special, who unbeknown to her friends and family, silently suffered years of serious domestic abuse.

Thankfully, with the support of the brilliant charity stopdomesticabuse.uk she and her young son were able to escape this situation and have successfully rebuilt their lives.

Sadly, theirs was not an isolated case.

One in four women, one in six men and one in seven children are affected by domestic abuse.

Stop Domestic Abuse is fighting for a world without domestic abuse. It is an innovative and unique provider of all services to protect and provide support to those affected.

The Small Home has grown around the concept of creating a beautiful home and I believe that everyone's home should be their safe haven.

So, I will be donating 10% of all profits made by our ‘Freedom’ slides to this charity.

My hope is that every step taken in these ‘Freedom slides’ will allow another woman to walk away from an abusive home.
