December can pass in a blur. There is a mass of organising and shopping to do, plus a full calendar of school, work and social events to attend.
December is also when I feel the family’s social battery running low at the end of the year. The children are ready for a break, there are seasonal colds and sniffles to swerve, and a ramping up of their activities such as festive concerts, shows and services.
So, the run-up to Christmas is a high wire act between enjoying these exciting events - and recovering from these exciting events! Then at some point in December, the outside events slowly cease and the focus switches to family and home.
This is my favourite time.
I love nothing more than hunkering down with the family and honouring family Christmas traditions. We all have our childhood Christmas traditions: for some it is the Christmas Eve box containing new pyjamas and a family board game; others enjoy embracing the Christmas jumper tradition.
